About Us
What you see is what you get with us.
We don’t have a fancy camera with cool lighting to take gorgeous pictures of the food that I love to cook and projects that he completes. We only have our phones. We are not outgoing enough to make our ideas into videos to post online…yet (don’t tell him I said “yet” haha).
I have basic pots and pans and utensils, nothing special and a TINY kitchen. I love to cook and try new things while living in a house with too many kids and picky eaters!
He has more tools than most women have shoes! He loves wood work and projects he can do around our little house and loves building and working with his hands. On his tractor is his happy place and if he has any of the kids outside with him, he is overjoyed!
We are a family of 7, which 6 of us live in this tiny house with 2 dogs and a cat. We are a blended family and share custody of our kids… but this is home to all of them. We are in our early 40s and love our blended family. We have 3 17 year old boys (yeah, you read that right!) and a 7 year old daughter. Our 21 year old daughter moved out and lives with her boyfriend’s family. We were as middle class as you could get and we loved it… until the company we both worked for sold to an equity firm. We went on our approved vacation and the day we got back we were both let go, our positions were terminated and we were no longer needed. We had just spent a lot of money on our first ADULT ONLY vacation. I had been with that company for 10 years and he had been there 23. Our lives got turned upside down and we needed to figure out how to make everything work while we were adjusting and transitioning. Having 4 picky eater kids…and he is a picky eater too…I wanted to share our large family dinners on a very limited budget with you.
I had looked for budget friendly meals and came across so many pages of people offering their amazing ideas. I wish I could have used them, but a lot wouldn’t have worked for us. A true OMG budget page was right… Eggs and toast or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner can be filling and you can’t go much cheaper than that, but our kids would have looked at me like I was nuts. Others… were a healthier route which I love, but my kids are not eating black bean and chick pea quesadillas. I love lettuce wraps, but I am the only one in the house who does. They are 3 teenage boys who demand meat! Then other pages looked so good but were not as budget friendly as they claimed… sun dried tomatoes are like $8 a jar??? That is not an ingredient that I am currently okay with shopping for. Yes, you have the staples… spaghetti or hamburger helper, soups and sandwiches… pizza…. but after while those get old and heavy and I needed new ideas. And I have found a good few that were still super cheap and were able to be adjusted for our family and are able to feed our small army and not get me in the dog house with any of them. So, I decided to start this blog endeavor to share my ideas!
I am one day hoping to maybe turn some of my recipes into videos, just not yet! And I don’t a niche or anything special about me yet… I am not a mom who is angry about cooking and throws things around the kitchen or gives middle fingers (which I do love watching those videos!), or a person who is only going to cook in my underwear or apron (which they are amazing as well!)… I am not southern with a cute accent who makes amazing soul food… or a butcher who knows how to break down a full cow. I am just me, I am just average. I am just real… and I know there are so many people like me out there that I will just fall into the abyss of the internet. So for now…honestly, this is more of a hobby for myself in hopes that it might reach one other mom out there and help make her life just a bit easier.
Then…I decided to make him help me grow this food blog into something more by including things I knew he was working around the house!
We are new to this adventure….so bare with us as we figure out what we are doing and how we want to go about it. But I am looking forward to seeing where this takes us!
